School's Out (Chapter 1)

The girls were situated in their assigned class for second period on one early morning. It was the final day of school and the girls were taking their last exams for the classes. In every classroom, the desks were aligned separately so the students didn't sit in their exact assigned seats. Madeline was prepared for her test. She was prepared for every test she had. That day, she had to take a test for her English class. She thought that that test would be a piece of cake since she memorized every piece of literature that was thrown at her. Her teacher laid down a piece of paper with a prompt on every desk with a student by it. She instructed every student to take out a loose leaf of paper and a Number Two pencil before declaring further instructions.
"Alright, kids, are you prepared? I don't care. Okay, on the paper right in front of you, it asks for you to write a two-page essay on what lesson do the books and stories you all have read share and explain the similarities in three paragraphs. However, you need to write five paragraphs which include an introduction and a conclusion. You have all period to complete this exam so when done, please bring your essay to my desk." The teacher patted her desk which was near the front of the room. "Please wait quietly and patiently until everyone is done or else I will fail you then tell your mothers. Alright, you all may start now."
"Here you go, Missus Atlantis," said Madeline, getting up from her seat and taking her piece of lined paper that was completely filled. She walked down the aisle and handed the teacher her essay. "Don't worry; I checked for errors."
The teacher looked at Madeline's paper, front and back, before setting it on her desk. "You always impress me, Madeline," she said.
"I know."
"But now you have to wait an hour until school ends."
"Oh, that's okay. But may I have permission to file my nails?"
"Sure."
"My bestie, Lizzie, tripped me this morning. Good thing I wasn't wearing any nail polish."
"Woman, I said, 'Sure'."
"Alright." Madeline threw her hands up.
She walked back to her desk down the aisle. She sat in her chair and slid it up so her abdomen could touch the desk. She picked up her pencil pouch from the floor and unzipped it. She took out an emery board and started filing the fingernail on her middle finger on her right hand.
