Volume 6 Coming Up??

Hello (to whoever is reading this),

If you were still with me from Volume 4 to Volume 5, then you know that I wasn't too sure if I was going to publish Volume 5 stories. Well, since my plans had changed, I was able to write twelve stories when I promised ten. Since I have a little more time before I move on with my life, I am going to write Volume 6. However, Volume 6 of BF4E will be the last volume on this blog. I wish I could do more so you could witness how much my writing would improve. But I don't really see myself writing any further than Volume 6.

Therefore, for the sixth volume, I will try to write and publish fifteen stories. The stories will be based on the girls' last summer together before they head off to college. So no more of them hanging at school, chatting during lunch in the cafeteria. I guarantee that Volume 6 will be way better than the other volumes I've created. After this, I will start working on the drafts. You will find the complete works in December since I will be using November to write.

So I will see you this December for Volume 6: The Final Volume!

Goodbye, School (Chapter 5)

The no-longer-seniors were directed out of the auditorium into the outside. More people gathered, hugging and talking to their best friends. Skye eventually found Madeline and began singing to her.

School's out for the summer
School's out forever

Madeline turned around and grinned at Skye. She squeezed the life out of her.
"Hey, not without me!" said Andrea as she approached the duo.
Madeline motioned for her to come over and hug them. "Ugh, aren't you guys still mad at me?" she asked her friends.
"No way," replied Andrea. "I am an adult now and we need to do good things."
"Like stop beating people up?" Skye guessed.
"Uh, I have to rethink that one."
"Well, I'm glad you guys are not mad at me. I hate it when you guys resent me. I need you in my life."
All of a sudden, Lizzie came zipping towards Madeline in tears and hugged her like she was going away for a while. She cried harder than she did earlier.
"There, there, Lizzie," Madeline said, patting Lizzie's head.
"I see nothing has changed after graduation," said Debra after coming up.
Lizzie let go of Madeline to hug Debra.
"I can't believe we aren't high school students anymore," shared Skye.
"I know," said Madeline. "I loved school."
"Of course, you did, Margaret Thatcher."
Madeline cocked her head and pursed her lips. "School was like a refuge to me. Like, what is us without school?"
"She's got a point," agreed Debra, still holding Lizzie.
"You guys, I want to go to college but I'm not ready to lose you. That's why, on this day forth, we are going to have the best summer ever. No out's."
"What if I got to go to summer camp?" asked Andrea.
"No out's, Andrea. And you would die at summer camp."
    "I'm all in," smiled Debra.
    "Me, too," Lizzie blubbered.
"Hey, I got nothing better to do," said Skye.
    "Aw!" uttered Madeline. "Group hug!"
The girls gathered and embraced each other. Lizzie was still crying.
"Ugh, Lizzie, calm down," Madeline commanded. "You're going to get snot on my gown."
"It's not like you're gonna wear it again," mentioned Skye.

Afterwards, one of the staff members went through an alphabetical list of seniors and individually announced each name. "Alright," she said. "Are you ready for this moment? Everyone, take your tassel and turn it to the other side."
Every senior reached for the tassel hanging from their caps and moved it over from the right side to the left side.
"Congratulations, Class of 2016. You have officially graduated from Laguna Beach High School. Can I get a 'Suck that, world'?"
"Suck that, world!" every student hollered.
"You guys rock." Madeline took off her cap and threw it in the air, prompting everyone to chuck their caps in the air.
Everyone's friends and families stood up and applauded them. After catching their hats, every student either cheered or hugged their neighbors, engaging in merry conversation.

Goodbye, School (Chapter 3)

"Please welcome our valedictorian -- and my favorite student -- Madeline King!" declared the principal.
Everyone clapped as Madeline got up and walked behind the podium.
"He didn't have to say who's his favorite student," whispered Madeline's friend, Chrissy, to her friend, A.J.
"How is everybody doing?" Madeline asked into the microphone. "Wow, you all look good. You should look good; you're graduating high school. You're becoming somebody different. I'm going to tell you all a little personal story if that's okay with you.
"I was not always the smart one. I was not always the pretty one. I was not always the confident one. Actually, I still have my insecure moments. Am I smart? Am I pretty? Am I confident? But I guess that it's important to have insecurities. We need to be reminded every day that we are human. We are no different than the person you sit next to. Forget about race, gender, sexuality, favorite singer. We are all the same because we're human and we go through a ton of issues.
"I used to think I was perfect. But -- I know this will seem a surprise -- I am not perfect. I grow hair on my legs, I wax my chin, I pop pimples, I will even pass a little gas. But guess what, so do you. So do all of you. And that is totally fine. However, I used to think that was not fine. Do you know who snapped me out of it? My friends.
"Yes, the four girls I hang out with almost every day of my life. And get this: they are all different from me. Usually, girls like me will hang out with... girls like me. But I didn't do that. There was something about each of these girls that made me gravitate towards them. I've known these girls for almost my entire life. The last friend I made, I met one of them during my freshman year. What's interesting is that we all changed at a certain period of time yet we are still friends. They changed me, only for the better. I can't tell the future but I know that we are best friends forever and I believe that.
"Some of you may not have friends like me. Some of you may not have any friends. But know this: your best friend has to be yourself. You have to know yourself before anyone can know you. You have to love yourself before anyone can love you. Your best friend has to be yourself. And I know that sounds selfish but hear me out. If you don't think you have self-worth, who will? You got to believe in yourself in order to achieve your goals. Nobody goes through life moping around and being suicidal. Everyone deserves to live but it is what you do with your life that determines the influence of your presence.
"Now after this, we won't be students of Laguna Beach High anymore. But some of us will still be students. Is that a bad thing? No. What if you don't go to college? That's fine. What if I live with my parents until I'm fifty years old? As long as you're helping them pay rent, you can do no wrong. We all have a future. It is what we do now that affects our future. Whatever your goal is, start now. Not tomorrow, now. If you don't have time today, then start tomorrow. But you can't start any later than tomorrow. You just can't. You want something, go for it. But you have to do good things. When you leave, remember this: do good things. Be a good person. Be a good best friend. Be good to yourself. Just know that you're going to make mistakes along the way. But you know you're giving it a try when you make mistakes. Thank you."
The audiences applauded for Madeline as she started to leave the podium.
"And if anyone finds a sparkly, peach lip gloss anywhere, notify me. I can't find mine."
Some of the audience members laughed.
"I'm serious. I need my lip gloss back. It's my only peach one."

Goodbye, School (Chapter 2)

The seniors were later directed from the lobby to the gymnasium. They sat on the bleachers alphabetically for half an hour until they were assembled into a line. That line was directed into a mega auditorium where they were surrounded by their loved ones in the stands. Everyone was cheering, calling out their children's names and taking pictures. The seniors sat down in the chairs in the center and watched the stage where the principal and star students were standing. Madeline happened to be one of the star students.
The principal stood in front of the podium and spoke in the microphone. "Welcome to the 2016 Graduation Ceremony of Laguna Beach High School!"
Everybody cheered like they were at a concert.
"I just want to say that I am proud of my students and the direction that they've decided to take. And I will honestly miss most of them as they go. These students deserve to move on from their lives at Laguna Beach and pursue successful careers that will take them to the greatest heights. Before I let some of my favorite students speak, I want us to loosen up a bit. I feel that it is important for a graduation ceremony to not only be serious but to be fun. So let's get jiggy with it as I'd like to welcome a student band, A New Yesterday!"
The audiences clapped as the spotlight shined beside the stage. There was Skye behind a microphone. Sean and David was on each side of her with their guitars and their own microphones. And Kent was right behind her on the drums. They still had on their caps and gowns but they didn't mind. They were very much prepared.

Paper bags and plastic hearts
All are belongings in shopping carts
It's goodbye...
But we got one more night
Let's have fun and ride around
And make peace with an empty town
We can make it right

The musicians stopped for a second before playing louder. Skye even sang louder when she began the chorus.

Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We'll make the great escape
But we won't hear a word they say
They won't know us anyway
Watch it burn, let it die
'Cause we are finally free tonight
All of the wasted time
The hours that were left behind
The answers that we'll never find
They don't mean a thing tonight

David started playing an epic guitar solo. Then Skye and David took turns singing.

Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We'll make the great escape
We won't hear a word they say
They don't know us anyway

Skye held a note in the first line of the chorus. Sean and David helped sing the chorus as they strummed their guitars.

Throw it away
Forget yesterday
We'll make the great escape
But we won't hear a word they say
They won't know us anyway
Watch it burn, let it die
'Cause we are finally free tonight

The musicians played quieter for the ending. Kent rapped on the cymbals before Sean stopped playing his bass and David plucked some strings for the outro. When they were done, the seniors gave the band a standing ovation. Skye jumped up and gave David a hug while he spun her around. He then let her down so the band could take a bow before the audiences.

Goodbye, School (Chapter 1)

Today was the day: graduation day. Every senior from Laguna Beach High School was gathered inside a fancy college before attending their ceremony. They were all standing in the lobby in their caps and gowns, waiting for further instructions. Friends talked to friends; lovers talked to lovers. They laughed, smiled and even cried. Actually, it was only Lizzie who was crying.
"What's wrong, Liz'?" asked Andrea.
"I don't want to graduate," answered Lizzie, choked up through sniffles. "I want to... stay at school... forever."
"You're lucky you're even graduating, Liz'," said Skye, almost muttering.
"Hey, don't cry," Madeline said, putting her arm around Lizzie.  "You should be happy. You're becoming an adult."
"I don't want to be an adult," wept Lizzie. "Adults die."
"Kids die, too, Lizzie."
"Kids die all the time," shouted Skye.
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" asked Lizzie.
"I guess not," said Madeline. "Listen, nothing is going to change. You're gonna go to a new school in a few months. Isn't that exciting?"
Lizzie wiped her nose. "I guess so."
"Right. So you should feel good about that."
"Okay."
"Okay, so stop crying. You're ruining your makeup."
"It's a good thing you guys are going to college," said Skye. "But while you're getting an education, I'll be out rocking." She pretended to play an air guitar.
"While you'll be out rocking, we'll be here knowing... stuff," said Madeline.
"I can't believe your band is going to release your first album," shared Debra.
"Just make sure you pick up a copy," reminded Skye.
"So you're not going to college at all?" questioned Lizzie, wiping her wet cheeks.
"That's correct."
"It's so weird that after we graduate, we'll be completely abandoning each other," said Andrea.
"We're not abandoning each other," said Debra. "We're going to the same school."
"Yeah, except for Madeline and Skye. I'm happy for all of you but can a sister get a warning?"
"Sorry that I'm going to Harvard," Madeline apologized. "But I'm not sorry. We should've already known that we're kinda going to go our separate ways."
"But I feel like we should've discussed it more."
"What is there to discuss? We're going to college. It's not like we're becoming magicians."
"That would be really cool if we were," shared Lizzie.
"We're best friends," mentioned Andrea. "Don't you think the state of our friendship should've been discussed?"
"She's right, Maddie," Debra agreed.
"Don't get mad at me because I'm going to Harvard," said Madeline. "Look, we still have the summer so how about tomorrow we watch a movie like Dirty Dancing?"
"I'm not gonna watch a movie about a pedophile," stated Skye.
"Hey, he was not a pedophile. Baby was seventeen, going on eighteen. And if she were to turn eighteen, she would've looked the same so it was not pedophilia. It was okay."
"Heck, if Kylie and Tyga were allowed to date, then there's nothing wrong with that movie," said Andrea. "Still, you can't bribe me with classics." She marched off and pushed herself through a crowd.
"Geez, there's no need to be upset. This is the present, turning into the future. We were very aware of that."
"Yeah, but you can't leave us without saying goodbye," mentioned Skye. She walked off as well.
"What is this? Walk Away Land? I'm being honest. I'm spitting truth."
"I got to find Kyle," said Debra before walking off, too.
"Oh, that's your excuse?" Madeline looked at Lizzie, who was still standing by.
"I would leave," confessed Lizzie, "but I don't want a bunch of people to see how messed up my makeup is."

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 2) (Chapter 5)

Skye walked upstairs after using the bathroom for a few minutes. She remembered leaving Jeffrey in the ballroom so that's where she headed back to. She looked around for her date until she saw him hanging around with the Cow Belles. They had their hair done in curls. Pamela had on a sexy, long-sleeved, lacy, black chiffon dress with white heels. Mauricia had on the same dress, except it was white and her heels were black. Skye instantly felt mad and marched right over to them.
"Oh, Jeffrey, that's so funny," Pamela told him in a seductive voice. "Tell me again." She caressed his shoulder.
Skye cleared her throat loudly.
"Oh, hi, Skye," said Maurica, putting her hands on her hips. "We didn't see you there."
"That's probably because you're short," added Pamela.
"Like a mouse."
"And you have the teeth of a mouse, too. Tch-tch-tch!"
"Real mature," said Skye. "What are you doing with my date?"
"Your date?" asked Mauricia. "I thought you two were broken up."
"We are," clarified Jeffrey.
"And we're friends now," added Skye. "We just decided to go here together."
"Oh, why on Earth would you want to go with Skye?" asked Pamela.
"She's so ick," said Mauricia. "But you, you're slick."
"Skye, doesn't he look better without his glasses?"
"He's a totally hottie for sure."
"Good to know," said Skye. "Can you stop molesting him?"
"Uh, Jeffrey's not telling us to stop," Pamela said.
"I think he likes it when we touch him," said Mauricia.
"But he's my date," Skye mentioned. "I should be the one who gets to touch him."
"Ooh, I don't think Jeffrey would like that," purred Pamela.
"I don't care. Just give him to me!"
"Calm down, Emo Thurman," ordered Mauricia. "We're all single, trying to mingle."
"But if you don't stop mingling, I will cut both of your arms off."
"You're crazy," Pamela commented.
"You're darn right I'm crazy. I own about forty machetes. You can stop by my house sometime and help me pick one to cut your arms off with."
"Skye, you need to relax," commanded Jeffrey.
"Was I talking to you, Rico Suave?"
"Hey, Jeff, after this thing is over, why don't we come over my house and start our own party?" asked Mauricia.
"Mauricia, please, he's mine," said Pamela.
"No, he's mine."
"He's none of ya's!" snapped Skye. "So I suggest you beat it 'fore I beat you."
"Skye--" Jeffrey started.
"I'm crazy."
"Skye, that's enough."
"Let's go, Mauricia," said Pamela. "We'll come back when Jeffrey puts his dog back into its cage."
"Ha-ha!" uttered Skye with a glower. "Hilarious!"
Pamela interlocked her arm with Mauricia's arm before the two walked away together.
"What is your problem?" asked Jeffrey. "I was having a conversation."
"Yeah, with the Cow Belles," said Skye. "You know that I hate them."
"But you never said I couldn't talk to them."
"Why would you need to talk to other girls? I'm your date."
"Skye, I'm starting to think you're coming off as a bit jealous."
"Jealous? I'm not jealous."
"I think you are."
"Screw you! You're jealous!" Skye marched off, causing Jeffrey to throw up his hands in confusion.

Meanwhile, Madeline went back into the ballroom and looked for Calvin. It was not that hard for her to find him because he was standing by the snack table again. He was facing it, drinking punch, acting anti-social. Madeline relaxed her shoulders and made her way toward Calvin.
"I thought you didn't like the punch," she told him, crossing her arms.
Calvin looked at her. "Well, I'd gotten used to it."
Madeline glanced down. "Did you happen to see me with Brody?"
"What, the guy with the amazing curly hair, soft skin and lips like a pillow? Nope, I don't think so."
"Listen, Lizzie told me how you feel about me."
"So what? You feel bad for me?"
"No, Calvin. I--"
"I know I'm not your type." He faced Madeline. "I know you think of me as a brother. But don't act like you never knew. There's a possible chance you didn't but something inside of you had to tell you that maybe I liked you more than a friend."
"Calvin, I'm not as smart as you think I am. Sometimes, I make stupid decisions. But I'm a young woman; it's completely normal of me. However, the last thing I ever wanted to do was to hurt you."
"You did it anyway so now what?"
Madeline smiled. "We dance."
"This isn't Footloose, Madeline."
"Just come on." Madeline took the cup from Calvin's hands and placed it on the table. She then dragged him into the dance floor.

All of the dancing teens calmed down when a slow song started to play. It was an old, pop song called "Collide", produced of guitars and violins. The people with dates embraced each other and started swaying on the dance floor. Andrea got a hold of Randall and slow-danced with him on the floor.
"Watch my hips," she told him.
"I'm not touching your hips," Randall spat.
"Well, it felt like it."
"You're delusional."
Andrea sighed. "So, Randall, I would like to say thank you for backing me up earlier."
"I wasn't backing you up. I was just stating the obvious."
"Well, thank you anyway."
"There's nothing to thank me for."
"You are so ungrateful."
"You're accusing me of something I didn't do!"
"Wait! Wait. Why are we arguing?"
"That's a dumb question. We always argue."
"I know! It's just that I asked you to the prom and you said yes. So we obviously like each other."
Randall stuttered. "I, uh-- I don't suppose-- Uh..."
"Randall, it's fine. I like you, okay? And I don't want to spend the rest of my life arguing with you. I want us to give this a chance."
"What's this?"
"Something more than a friendship... even though we weren't really ever friends."
"Why do you like me?"
"Because you're smart, fearless, and kinda arrogant. You're just like me, only smaller and white."
"But I'm not really a 'dream guy'. I don't fit the definition of a 'stud'."
"That's okay. I don't want a 'stud'. I want you. I know it sounds crazy and cliche, but whatever I was finding, I found you... for some reason."
"Andrea, I like you, too. Ugh! But I never been in a relationship. I don't know how to be a boyfriend. Chances are I'm not good at it."
"Well, you'll never know if you don't try."
Randall smiled. That made Andrea feel weird because she felt like she had never seen Randall smile ever. It truly warmed her heart. It even tempted her to kiss Randall's smiling lips.

"What is this?" Calvin asked Madeline.
"Your prom," she answered.
"I think it's our prom."
"No, it's your prom. I promise."
"Funny. Listen, Madeline, you don't have to pretend that you like me--"
"I'm not pretending. I don't even like Brody. Every time I liked a guy, it was always the same feeling. But when I'm with you, I feel different. It's a... good different. Maybe that's how I should feel every day."
Calvin slightly smiled."Madeline, if Lizzie told you that I loved you, you don't have to feel the same way. I just wanted you to know that."
"Listen, I don't know what love truly feels like but if it explains the way I feel around you, then that's a good thing."
Calvin's crooked smile turned into a grin. It made Madeline grin. They both leaned towards each other and had their very first kiss.

"You were so jealous," Jeffrey said to Skye.
"I was not jealous!" Skye snapped.
"You were."
"Oh, my God. You're so annoying."
"Why can't you admit it?"
"Because it wouldn't make sense."
"Why wouldn't it make sense?"
Skye sighed. "I broke up with you, thinking it would be better if we were friends. But I can't look at you as a friend. It's... bogus."
"Strong word."
"I shouldn't be jealous, okay?"
"I would feel sad if you didn't."
"Jeffrey, we're not together. And I regret that we're not together because it means losing you."
"You're not going to lose me. Don't say that."
"But you deserve so much more than what I could've given you."
"What if I don't want more?"
"Jeffrey, you deserve a girl who cares about you."
"So you didn't care about me?"
"No, I cared about you. I still do. I care about you more than any other girl you know, including your mother."
"You care about me more than my mom?"
"Yes, Jeffrey. Don't tell her that though."
"Cross my heart."
"I just don't want to hurt you."
"I'm not hurt, Skye. That's the problem."
"You don't have to lie to me, Jeffrey." Her voice grew quiet.
"I'm not. You're not hurting me and I want to be with you. The only thing that could hurt me is if you don't tell me the truth."
A tear rolled down Skye's cheek. Her voice began to break up. "I love you, Jeffrey. I really do."
"And you know I've always loved you."
Skye grabbed Jeffrey's face and began kissing him passionately.
At that moment, Lizzie began kissing DeMarcus and Debra started kissing Kyle. Everyone seemed to be in love. Maybe it was the music. Maybe it was the dancing. Whatever it was, it felt pretty good.

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 2) (Chapter 4)

While almost every senior from Laguna Beach High was on the dance floor. Everyone except for Andrea and Randall, who were together, leaning against the wall. Andrea was noshing on a plate of pretzels she received from the snack table. Randall slowly became irritated as he listened to Andrea insistently munching on the crunchy snack food.
"Could you chew any louder?" Randall snapped.
"Could you be any more snippy?" Andrea responded.
"Those pretzels can't be that good."
"Well, they're good so deal with it."
"I can't believe I'm at the prom with you."
"Well, no one put a gun to your head."
"No, they put an Andrea to my head."
"I am not a thing."
"Clearly, you aren't. You're an animal who eats like an animal."
"You know what?!"
"Hey," a male voice said.
"What?" Andrea turned her head and was immediately face-to-face with her ex-boyfriend, Kevin Christie. She was instantly frozen, looking deep into Kevin's hazel eyes. "Kevin," she finally spoke.
"You look amazing in that dress, Andrea," Kevin complimented her.
"Th-Thank you."
"Look, I know I haven't spoke to you in a while but... can we talk?"
"Gee, I don't know, Kevin. I mean, you--"
"This will only take a second. I promise." Kevin gently grabbed one of Andrea's hands.
Andrea looked down. "Okay. Can we talk here?"
"It's a little too noisy here."
"I can hear you just fine."
"Okay, well... Can he move somewhere?" Kevin pointed at Randall, who was staring at him.
"I don't think so, pal," said Randall, crossing his arms. "I was here first."
"I know but--"
"He's my date, Kevin," said Andrea. "He should stay."
"You can't tell me what to do," Randall muttered.
"Andrea, I miss you," said Kevin. "And I know it was wrong of what I did. But if you let me explain--"
"Are you here with Lorna?" Andrea interrupted him.
"What?"
"You heard me. Are you here with Lorna?"
"I-- Uh, I--"
"If Lorna's a small, blonde girl with a weird smile," started Randall, "then yes, he's here with her."
"That describes her," confirmed Andrea.
"She was wearing a cream-colored dress."
"Hey, I was talking to Andrea," said Kevin.
"Well, you're done talking to her," said Andrea. She walked away from Kevin, dropping her plate of pretzels and feeling the corners of her eyes for tears.

Thirty minutes had passed after Madeline went to the bathroom. Calvin felt worried and decided to look for her. He walked around the whole ballroom, surveying the dancing crowd. He went out and entered the series of halls that led to the lounge. When he got to the last hall, he found Madeline, recognizing her blonde hair and purple gown. However, she was pressing a curly-haired hottie, probably Brody, against the wall and necking him. Calvin stared at the two in disbelief and did not want to interrupt them. At that moment, Lizzie and DeMarcus had just taken photos together. As they were about to leave, they caught Madeline kissing Brody as well. They also saw Calvin, who decided to go back into the halls and leave.
"Go ahead without me," Lizzie whispered to DeMarcus. "This will take a seccy."
DeMarcus nodded and exited the halls. Lizzie moved closer towards Madeline and slapped her a few times on the back. Madeline pulled away from Brody when she felt someone assaulting her.
"Lizzie, what are you doing?" she asked.
"A good thing," Lizzie responded. "You have a date. And you!" She pointed at Brody. "You're here with a possibly Swedish chick."
"Oh, yeah, I almost forgot about her," Brody exhaled, looking at the ceiling. "I hope she's still on the dance floor." Brody ran away into the halls.
"What was going on?" Lizzie asked, putting her fists on her hips.
"Listen, I know that me and Brody have dates," said Madeline. "But he was looking so good that I had to grab him."
"Man, you do like having two dates to the prom."
"Brody's not my date. I have Calvin."
"So why aren't you making out with Calvin?"
"Because he's my friend."
"Well, Calvin doesn't look at you that way."
"What do you mean?"
"Calvin is crazy in love with you."
"What?"
"Yeah, Calvin likes you more than a friend. And he was here, watching you with Brody, looking so crazy in love. You got him looking, got him looking so crazy in love."
"Uh, there is no way Calvin loves me. He is just a really good friend."
"Uh, news flash, Maddie. Every guy loves you. Why wouldn't Calvin love you?"
"Because he's homosexual."
"He's not homosexual, Maddie. He's metrosexual. DeMarcus taught me that word two minutes ago."
Madeline closed her eyes. "Okay, I'm so confused."
"What's confusing? Calvin does everything you tell him to do and that's because he likes you. He wants to be with you and he has tried to make it clear. But you never got it. I thought you were smart!"
"I am smart! It's just that... Calvin? I can't go out with Calvin."
"Really, Madeline?"
"What?"
"I forget how shallow you can be. You claim you want good guys but you never pursue good guys. That's why you're always single. You pick the wrong guys. If you were with Sean, he would have made you feel like such a princess. But you shouldn't be with Sean; he's nasty. Now, Calvin claims to have been in love with you ever since you two were kids. And you're not even going to give him a chance? He would catch a grenade for you. Throw his hand on a blade for you. And you're gonna continue going after guys who have no real respect for you? That makes me not want to respect you at all, Madeline."
Lizzie walked away, leaving Madeline by herself in the hall. She stared into the air, thinking about everything Lizzie said. Even though Lizzie usually says ridiculous things, what she said to Madeline actually made sense.

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 2) (Chapter 3)

After the girls were done preparing themselves for the prom, they showed themselves off in front of their parents, who were once again reunited. They all took pictures together and send their kids off to the dance. Calvin picked Madeline up from home; Kyle picked Debra up; DeMarcus picked up Lizzie; Skye's mother drove her and Jeffrey; Andrea decided to drive to the prom by herself.
The senior prom was located at a fancy hotel in Orange County. All the teenagers attending turned in their tickets in the lobby and were directed upstairs to a ballroom. Yet it was no ordinary ballroom: it was filled with changing light of color and a band was playing wild music that drove the teens crazy. There was a table clothed in white full of snacks, plastic cups and a bowl of fruit punch. Next to the ballroom was a lounge for the teenagers to chill and have their pictures taken by some professional photographers.
Madeline entered the hotel with Calvin in her arm, looking absolutely beautiful in a sparkly lavender ball gown. Calvin looked cute himself, wearing wine-colored suit with a white bow tie. Many students, girls and boys, complimented Madeline as she walked past them. The students did the same when DeMarcus and Lizzie came through. She looked gorgeous in a long, red gown while DeMarcus sported a blue suit with a red tie. Debra entered with Kyle, wearing a white mermaid dress with orange tribal patterns on the top. Kyle looked funky in a suit covered in a multicolored paisley pattern. Skye did not hold hands with Jeffrey when she came with him. They did look good together with Skye wearing a deep purple dress with black peeking out from the bottom and Jeffrey wearing an all-black suit. Andrea met up with Randall at the prom, arriving in a short white dress with gold sequins in the middle, looking like a unique belt. Randall seemed adorable in a navy blue suit with a plain black tie.
"Aw, you look cute!" said Andrea.
"Please don't make fun of me," ordered Randall.
"Why? You remind me of the teddy bear in a suit I got when I was seven."
"Well, what bride did you have to kill to make that dress?"
Andrea scowled. "Just get to the ballroom, Buster Poindexter." She walked past Randall, who followed her into the ballroom of dancing teenagers.
Madeline and Calvin were idling by the snack table, sipping punch from their cups.
"How's your punch?" asked Calvin.
"It's good," answered Madeline. "I hope they didn't put too much sugar in it."
"It's sweet?"
"Yeah. Is yours sour?"
Calvin nodded. "Yeah."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I like mine but I'm not going to drink too much. I'm on a no-more-than-twenty-grams-of-sugar diet."
"Man, you always seem to be on a diet."
"Well, it's important to stay healthy. Also, I got to look cute for all the handsome boys around me."
"Really?"
"Yeah! I mean, look at Allan Reid over there. If I was Jim Morrison, I would definitely let him light my fire."
"Oh, of course."
"Hey, watch my cup, will ya?" Madeline set her cup down on the table. "I got to go find the powder room. It will take about ten minutes."
"Okay, and when you come back, we have to dance together."
"Of course. But if they play a slow song, you better keep your hands on my waist. Oh, why am I telling you? Of course, you know that, buddy." Madeline walked away, exiting the ballroom.
"Yeah... buddy." Calvin lowered his head until he heard humming. He looked up to see Lizzie dancing her way to the punch bowl.
"Hi, Calvin!" she grinned.
"Hi, Lizzie."
"Where's Maddie?"
"Oh, she went to the bathroom."
"To pee?"
"I guess so."
Lizzie picked up a cup and the ladle from the bowl to pour some punch for herself. "I got to tell you, Madeline was so happy when you asked her to the prom."
"She was?"
"Absolutely. No one else was going to go with her so when you asked her, she felt less alone."
"Oh, right."
"I know we've been here for less than a half-hour but I'm having so much fun. I always have fun with DeMarcus and he's letting me hang out with his black friends."
"Uh, I don't think you need to mention that they're black, Lizzie."
"Oh, do they find that offensive? The last thing I want to do is offend DeMarcus. I love him so much."
"Well, that's good news. Hey, uh, can I tell you a secret?"
"Sure, I love secrets. They're like pieces of candy you stow away from other candy lovers."
"Okay, but you can't tell Madeline."
"Why can't I tell Madeline?"
"Because I love her."
Lizzie froze. Then she laughed. "What?"
"I love Madeline and I loved her since elementary school."
"Elementary school? That's a long time."
"I know and I thought it was a feeling that was gonna go away but it never has. I love your friend, Lizzie."
"But I thought you were gay."
"Why would you think I'm gay?"
"I don't know. I think it's the way you talk or walk."
"I just got some panache, that's all."
"See? Gay word."
"Okay, you don't have to bully me, Lizzie."
"I'm not bullying you. There's nothing wrong with being gay."
"But I'm not gay!"
"Okay! Are you sure?"
Calvin squinted his eyes. "Look, Lizzie, I love Madeline but she only sees me as a friend or so I think."
"Well, I don't know if Madeline likes you more than a friend. I mean, she's always talking about how great you are."
"That's because I do whatever she wants me to do. If she wants me to put something in the paper, I get it in the paper. Sometimes, I get in trouble for it but I keep doing it because it makes Madeline happy."
"Aw, you do love her. Or you're just some lackey."
"Listen, I can't tell Madeline that I love her. Can you tell her... and be subtle about it?"
"Of course, Calvin. I'm great at being subtle. Besides, it's great that you're admitting you love Maddie. Skye loves Jeffrey and she's not gonna do anything about it."
"Good to know. Thanks, Lizzie."
"You're welcome. But if it doesn't work out, you can try to be gay again."
"I was never gay!"
"Hey, there's nothing wrong with trying."
"Lizzie, has anyone ever told you how prejudiced you are?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Well, now someone has."

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 2) (Chapter 2)

"It's time to shave your legs, ladies!" shouted Madeline, busting through her bedroom door. "We're going to the prom."
"I don't want to shave my legs," said Andrea.
"Why? To prove to Randall that you're the man in the relationship?"
"Hardy-har-har. Don't make me slap you."
"Well, I'm not shaving my legs," shared Skye. "I'm going to the prom with Jeffrey, who's my friend, who I don't love."
"But don't you want to look good?" asked Madeline. "I mean, if you don't want Jeffrey, you could still flirt with other guys."
"There's going to be single guys at the prom and the only guy you could get was Calvin?" questioned Andrea.
Madeline leered at her.
"That's right. I got comebacks."
"I'm not going to abandon Jeffrey for some lame jock," said Skye. "He's my date; I don't need another one unlike you."
Madeline dropped her shoulders. "Okay, one: I did not have two dates to the prom. I almost did but I dumped the other one. And two: I don't have two dates now so there's no need to talk about it again."
"Oh, but you would have two dates if you could, princess."
"When am I supposed to take this mask off?" asked Lizzie, whose face was covered in a thick, black substance.
"Oh," said Madeline, looking down at her silver watch, "after twenty minutes of putting it on, which happens to be up."
"So how I do take this off?"
"That's easy: you rip it off." Madeline walked over to Lizzie and grabbed onto the mask on her face. With great force, she pulled half of the mask off, exposing ruddy skin underneath.
Lizzie shrieked. "That hurts so bad!" she screamed.
"Then I'm sorry for doing this." Madeline ripped the other half off, making Lizzie scream again.
Lizzie picked up a hand mirror and looked at her red face. "Ah, I look like a tomato!"
"But a totally hot tomato."
Lizzie cocked her head. "That's true."
"Just face this fan so your face can cool off." Madeline turned on the big, electric fan that was sitting on the floor.
Lizzie leaned towards it and let the cool air hit her face. "Ahhh..." she sighed.
"What nail polish color should I use?" asked Debra, holding up two bottles of nail lacquer. "Yellow or orange?"
"Orange," answered Andrea, "because yellow nails make you look like a MOTHERFREAKIN' NUUUUUT!"
Madeline and Skye laughed. Debra just smiled and drooped her head at Andrea.
"Yeah, use orange," Madeline agreed. "I will be using white."
"I will be using black," Skye shared.
"You always use black."
"What's wrong with black, white supremacist?"
"You know that's not funny."
"Well, I hope it's not true. I like black and I don't like prom so I might as well feel good about myself."
        "And look good."
"How can you not like prom?" asked Debra. "You and Jeffrey established your relationship at prom."
"And we broke up a year later. So, technically, that's not a good thing."
"You're such a Negative Nelly."
"With jelly in her belly," added Madeline, smiling.
"Well, I don't want to be a Positive Polly," said Skye. "Oh, wait, it's the molly."
"You are a Negative Nelly."

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 2) (Chapter 1)

"How about this?" asked Madeline, picking up a weird-shaped, white dress.
"Is that a belt?" questioned Andrea.
"No, it's a halter dress with cutouts."
"Then why does it look like a shoelace?" asked Skye.
"Ha-ha, very funny." Madeline put back the dress on its hanger. "I just want to look really good for the prom."
"But it's the prom, not the stripper ball."
"Strippers have balls?" asked Lizzie.
"There's something wrong with that question."
"I am so happy that Calvin asked me to the prom," shared Madeline.
"I thought he liked boys," said Andrea.
"There's no proof of that. But if we're being honest, I thought that, too. However, Calvin asked me and I wasn't going to be selfish and reject him. I made that mistake with Sean."
"You would be so unhappy if you took Sean to the dance," said Skye.
"I know, but I had to take someone."
"No, you don't, Maddie. Like I said, you should go by yourself."
"And witness everyone having a better time than me? I don't think so."
"It is very nice that Calvin is taking you to the prom," Debra said. "He has always been a good friend to you."
"I know. He's like a butler who you later grow a connection with as you get older and he continues to work for you."
"That's a rich girl thing to say. But you're happy and that's important."
"Please, if Sean had just gone with the flow when Madeline finally accepted his request, she would've been happy anyway," said Skye. "I was just saying she would be unhappy later because she was desperate for a date anyway."
"Why are you hatin' on me?" asked Madeline. "You wanted me to go to the dance with Sean in the first place."
"I'm just stating the obvious."
"Are you? Like, you do like Sean? Is that your problem?"
"No, I don't like Sean. I love somebody else."
Lizzie looked at Skye. "Did you say 'love'?" she asked.
"No." Skye scrunched her eyebrows.
"Yes, you did," said Andrea. "You said you love somebody."
"No, I didn't."
"Uh-huh!" Debra disagreed. "You did! You love somebody. Is it Jeffrey? Oh, my goodness, you love Jeffrey."
"Guys, calm your boobs!"
"My boobs are calm," said Lizzie.
"I never said I loved Jeffrey. It was a slip of the tongue."
"In Jeffrey's mouth," added Andrea.
"Okay, that's nasty. He is my friend, alright? I'm going with him to prom as a friend and we're gonna go through life as friends."
"Sure you are, lover," said Madeline.
"Oh, just buy your shoelace dress so we can get out of here."

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 1) (Chapter 5)

A week had gone by and Madeline still did not have a date for the prom. She tried to ask out every guy she ever had a connection with. However, they either rejected her or ignored her. The list of guys she knew was decreasing faster and faster. So she decided to ask the one guy she did not want to ask: Sean Hemingway.
She drove over to his house slowly with hesitation. When she parked right out front, she stared at his house and gulped. She turned off her car and began sliding out. She walked right up to his door and rang the doorbell. As she waited, Madeline fixed her golden locks and straightened out her light pink sweater.
Soon, Sean opened the door wide open. "Hey, Madeline," he greeted her. He didn't seem that excited.
"Hey, stud," Madeline responded. "I mean, Sean." She twirled a lock of her hair.
"How did you know where I lived?"
"Well, since you knew where I lived, I figured I should know where you lived. So I asked Skye for your address and she was more than happy to give it to me."
"Okay."
"So remember when you asked me to the prom and I said no?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I was wrong. I meant yes. I would be super glad if you took me to the prom."
"Oh, Madeline, I've been waiting for this moment practically my entire life. But I can't."
"Okay, since the prom starts at seven, I'm going to need you to pick me up at six thirty. My dress is definitely going to be a pastel color so you should try--"
"Madeline, I said I can't take you to the prom."
Madeline chuckled. "Of course, you can. You love me."
"Yeah, but I met someone else. And I'm going to take them to the prom."
"Boy, stop lying."
"No, I can prove it to you. She's here right now." Sean leaned back, looking into the hall. "Babe?" he called.
Madeline slowly grew anxious as she realized that Sean actually did have a date. She became a bit agitated when Sean's date stood next to him in front of the doorway.
"Hey, Madeline," said Chrissy, Madeline's friend from debate club.
"Chrissy, what are you doing here?" Madeline asked.
"She's my prom date and my new special friend," answered Sean, putting his arm around Chrissy.
Madeline began to stutter. "W-What?"
"That's right," said Chrissy. "Me and Sean are going out." She twinkled at him.
The look on Madeline's face was not a pleased one. She was officially angry. "You've been chasing me since freshman year. You ask me out almost every day and every time, I tell you no. Now, since senior year is almost up, the first thing you want to do is move on?!"
"Madeline, calm down," Chrissy commanded.
"You calm down. He's only with you because you remind him of me."
"That's not true," said Sean. "You just happen to be beautiful, smart, driven women. But you two are still different."
"How? Because I'm blonde and she's brunette? Gentlemen prefer blondes, remember?"
"Look, you didn't want to go with me to the prom so I found somebody else."
"But I do now! Chrissy, how could you do this to me?"
"Do what?" asked Chrissy. "You always complain about Sean in debate club. When I got to know him, he was really sweet and genuine. Sorry I got dibs."
"You are such a ho."
"I'm the ho? You're the ho!"
"No, you're the ho, ho!"
Madeline and Chrissy began pointing fingers at each other. When they moved closer towards one another while arguing, Sean stood in-between them and pushed Chrissy back.
"Girls, don't fight over me," he demanded.
"I am never a ho," Chrissy shouted. "You're the one who's a ho. I saw the contact list on your phone. You know, like, thirty Allan's."
"Girls, it's over. Come on, babe. Let's finish watching Sixteen Candles."
"Okay. Bye, Madeline."
"Don't you 'bye' me!" said Madeline.
Sean closed the door.
"You better not show your face at debate club tomorrow!" Madeline turned around and walked away, almost tearing up. On her way to her car, she was stopped by some person.
"Hi, Madeline," said Calvin. "Are you crying?"
"No," she said, sniffling. "I was about to."
"Well, what's wrong? Tell me."
"Wait, what are you doing here?"
"I live here."
"You live here? Next to Sean?"
"Yeah."
"Oh, man! So if I was to come to your house, Sean would've been right next door? Gosh, I almost feel violated."
"Why are you upset?"
Madeline's voice broke. "All I want is a date to the prom. I know it sounds stupid but I remember loving prom last year and I just want someone to share that love with. Of course I could be with my friends but they all got dates. I just don't understand why I'm not approachable. I'm Madeline Louise King!"
"I know."
"Nobody wants to go with me. Brody is taking some Swedish chick; Jackson is with Priya; Homer won't even talk to me; I called Terry and he says he has a girlfriend; Sean decided that he wants to take out a clone of me. It's completely outrageous. I can't believe there's nobody who likes me."
"I like you."
"Oh, it's not enough. You know, maybe I should propose to celebrities like some kids do on the internet. Maybe I could ask out Channing Tatum."
"Channing Tatum is married."
"That doesn't mean he can't have any fun. Oh, what's the use? If no guy at school wants to be with me, why would a hot celebrity want to?"
"Madeline, do you really want a prom date that bad?"
"So badly, Calvin."
"Then go with me."
"Huh?" Madeline wiped her nose.
"I don't have a date to the prom. You can go with me."
"But I thought you like-- Oh, it doesn't matter. You know, I need to take what I can get. Thank you, Calvin. Thank you so much. You are such a good friend."
Madeline gave Calvin a short hug before running away to her car.
"Yep," Calvin said to himself, nodding. "Good... friend. That's... what I am." He chuckled but quickly put on a straight face.

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 1) (Chapter 4)

It was another day at Laguna Beach High. The girls were yet again at the cafeteria, eating and chatting. At one moment, Calvin, Madeline's scrawny friend, came over to the table with a camera hung around his neck and notepad in his hand.
He waved at the girls. "Hi, everyone," he said in singsong.
"Hey, Calvin," the girls said.
"What are you doing here, Calv'?" asked Madeline.
"I made up a survey to use in the school paper," explained Calvin. "I was hoping if you guys would like to answer some questions."
The girls accepted.
"Cool!" Calvin held his pencil to his notepad. "So how are you guys feeling about the upcoming prom?"
"I'm horrified," answered Skye. "It's really bumming me out. I rather drink a whole liter of gasoline and run on a trail of hot coals than to go to the LSD-fueled fest full of horny teenagers known as 'senior prom'."
Calvin froze, then began writing on his pad. "I'm just going to take that as a 'I'm not so excited'."
"Dang, Skye," said Andrea. "No wonder you don't have a date."
"That reminds me: will you girls be bringing dates with you and why?"
"I--," Skye began but Calvin interrupted her.
"You're done. Any other takers?"
"That's easy," said Lizzie, putting her arm around her boyfriend. "I will be bringing DeMarcus with me because he is my boyfriend and soulmate."
"And I will be taking Lizzie," said DeMarcus, "because she is my girlfriend and mates with my soul as well."
"Aw, that's sweet," commented Calvin, writing their answers down. "Finally, do you think senior prom will be better than junior prom? Don't say anything, Skye."
"I believe senior prom will be better," replied Madeline. "As seniors, we are provided with more freedom. And because of it, I think everybody will have the time of their lives."
Calvin wrote on his pad. "Excellent, excellent. Thank you guys so much for taking my survey. You will be newspaper stars."
"Interesting," said Lizzie.
Calvin lifted his camera and took a picture of the five. "Bye, guys!" He waved before leaving.
"Bye!" all the girls said.
"For your information," Skye told Andrea, "I do have a date. His name is Jeffrey."
Andrea almost choked on her lunch. "Your ex-boyfriend?" she asked.
"That's the one."
"I thought you guys were, like, dunzo," said Lizzie.
"We are, but there's nothing wrong with going with a friend."
"That's a neat way of looking at it, Skye," said Debra.
"Well, that's perfect," snapped Madeline. "Skye's going with Jeffrey, Lizzie's with DeMarcus, Andrea's got Randall and Debra's going with Kyle. All of my friends got a date except for me. I am Madeline Louise King; every guy finds me irresistible!"
"Just go by yourself," recommended Skye.
"Didn't you hear what I said? I'm Madeline Louise King. I can't go by myself."
"But you are," said Lizzie.
"No, I'm not!"
"Oh, Madeline..." a male voice sang.
Madeline closed her eyes. "Oh, no," she muttered. "I'm afraid to look."
"There's nothing to be scared of," said Lizzie. "It's just Skye's band."
"I know, Lizzie." Madeline opened her eyes and turned her head, studying David, Sean and Kent, Skye's bandmates. Sean was standing right behind her. "Hey, guys," she smiled awkwardly.
"Madeline, are you lotion?" asked Sean, her worst nightmare. "Because I want you all over my body."
"No. Thank God." Madeline slowly turned her back.
"So, Madeline--"
"No."
"You don't know what I was going to say."
"Yes, I do and the answer is no."
"Can I at least ask so you'd know the question?"
"Fine."
"The prom is coming up and I was wondering--"
"No."
"I didn't finish!"
"There's no need. I'm not going to the prom with you, Sean. Okay, maybe I would've gone with you last year."
"But what happened?"
"I already had a date."
"'Date' as in 'dates'," said Skye.
"I'm sorry, Sean," said Madeline, "but it's a no."
"Fine, I'm used to your no's anyway," mumbled Sean.
"Hey, Skye, can we have band practice at my house?" asked David.
"Sure, Dave," she answered.
"Cool."
"Sorry you got rejected, buddy," Kent told Sean.
"I didn't get rejected," said Sean.
"Oh, no, you got rejected," clarified Madeline.
"Let's go."
The boys walked away from the table. Skye shook her head at Madeline.
"What?" asked Madeline.
"You've been complaining that you have no date to the prom," answered Skye, "and when somebody asks you, you tell them no?"
"It wasn't somebody, Skye. It was Sean."
"It doesn't matter. What's wrong with Sean?"
"I can give you a million reasons what's wrong with Sean. For example, I once caught him sniffing the insides of my shoes."
"It was just one shoe."
"It was five."
"Well, how did you get the time to catch Sean smelling five of your shoes?"
"Look, don't put this on me."
"Skye is right, Maddie," said Debra. "You're a hypocrite."
Madeline laughed. "I'm a hypocrite because I want the perfect prom date?"
"Nobody's perfect," spit Skye. "If you think like that, you'll never have a date."
"Sorry for having dreams."
"Dreams do come true," added DeMarcus.
"Don't side with her, DeMarcus," commanded Skye. "She's full of fairytale farts and princess poo."
"Ouch. I can't believe you have a date."

Time to Shave Your Legs (Part 1) (Chapter 3)

"DeMarcus asked me yesterday," Lizzie told Andrea.
"He did?" asked Andrea.
"Yeah, but it was totally a proposal."
"A prom-posal?"
"Yeah. After he helped his team win the football game yesterday, one of the student anchors asked him what was he going to do next. And he said that he was going to ask me to the prom. So I came running down the bleachers and I jumped in his arms, screaming, 'Yes! Yes!'"
"Aw, was it romantic?"
"Yeah. I mean I tripped, like, three times going down the bleachers. But it was all worth it!"
"You don't say." Andrea looked down at Lizzie's beat-up knees.
"So are you going to ask Randall to prom?"
"No way, Liz'."
"Why not? Don't you still like him?"
"Yeah, but he doesn't really like me."
"You said that he called you beautiful."
"So?"
"So that means he kinda likes you. And you like him, too, so you have to ask."
"I don't think he wants to go with a beautiful woman like me to the prom."
"So you think he's going to go with a beautiful man?"
"I don't know, Lizzie! The point is that he's going to say no."
"Puh-shaw! How is he going to say no? Look, he's right over there."
Andrea turned around to see Randall stapling flyers onto the bulletin board in the hallway.
"You won't know if you don't ask."
"Fine, I'll try. But if he rejects me, you owe me a soda."
"What if he accepts?"
"Then you still owe me a soda."
"Okay!" Lizzie grinned.
Andrea turned around and exhaled. She walked over to Randall, immediately grabbing his attention. "Hi, Randall," she said, smiling.
"What do you want, Andrea?" he asked.
"Do you have a date for the prom?"
"No, I hate every girl in this school."
"You don't have to ask a girl who goes here."
"What's your point, Sherlock?"
"Okay, Sherlock was a man. Don't compare to a man."
"Did you come over here just to start a fight with me?"
"No, I came over here to ask you to the prom."
Randall laughed. "Are you really that desperate?"
"Who you callin' desperate, man?"
"Why are you asking me to the prom?"
"'Cause you ain't got no date! I'm just trying to help you out, man."
"Like I need your help."
"So is it a yes or no?"
"Why are you pressuring me?"
"You have not seen pressure yet, dear."
"I don't need to be forced."
"Then give me an answer!"
"Fine, I'll go since you have no one else to go with."
"What is that supposed to be mean?"
"You obviously had no one to ask."
"Look, just be grateful."
"Whatever, Andrea. I'm busy so can you wrap it up?"
"It's already been wrapped!" Andrea turned around and walked away from Randall, who continued to stick papers on the board. She faced Lizzie and began smiling like a little child. "He said yes, girl."
"Ooh, go ahead with your bad self!" Lizzie said.
