On Friday night,
Lizzie, Debra and Skye made their way to Madeline's house for Bad Movie Friday
to watch the comedy, Jawbreaker. The girls chilled in the living room to watch
the large screen television in high definition. Madeline crouched before the TV
and inserted the DVD into the player.
"Where is
Andrea?" she asked.
"She said she
might be at her grandfather's birthday party," answered Debra.
"Yeah, but she
said that she would seventy-five percent be here." Madeline stood up.
"That also means
that she would twenty-five percent not be here," noticed Skye. "So
look at those odds." She picked up a potato chip from the bowl on the
coffee table.
Madeline crossed her
arms then sat down on one of the sofas, the one that Skye was sitting on.
"So what if
Andrea's not here?" asked Lizzie. "She'd want us to go on."
"Actually, she
would probably want us to wait for her," said Skye. "There's a chance
she's being 'fashionably late'."
"I didn't know
being late can be fashionable. I'd be late all the time."
"Andrea was the
one who wanted us to have Bad Movie Friday," reminded Madeline. "She
should be here."
"You really
wanted to see Emma, did you?" asked Skye.
"Yes."
"You've probably
seen it like twenty times."
"So? I'm an
American; I have the right to watch a movie many times."
"Don't be so
grumpy," said Debra. "Andrea said that she probably won't come."
"But she said she
would. I'm gonna text her." Madeline pulled out her cell phone.
"Be polite."
"I know what to
do." Madeline twiddled her thumbs on the touch-screen phone.
"Dang, man,"
started Skye. "I bet that Emma movie is not even that good."
"It is good! It's
a good film."
"Then why don't
you watch it by yourself when this movie is over?"
"Because I want
you guys to enjoy it with me."
"What if I don't
enjoy it?"
"Well, that's
your problem, Skye."
"Getting grumpy
over a movie..."
"Next week, can
we watch that movie where Madonna gets slapped?" requested Lizzie.
"Listen, if your
grandfather was very old and celebrating his birthday, you'd want to attend,
too," said Debra.
"Of course I'd
attend, Debra," said Madeline. "But it depends how he's celebrating.
Free, organic food? You bet I'm there."
"You're so honest
when you're not lying."
"Thank you, I
guess. And I'm not a liar!"
"You're the one
who said her grandfather could die any minute."
"I didn't say
that."
"Lies!"
"No, I said
people die on their birthdays. If he dies today, she's going to witness it then
she's gonna regret going and wish she was here."
"And she should
feel like the fool if that were to happen?"
"I don't know.
Whatever floats your boat, Debbie."
"Are you on your
period?"
"Yeah, a little
bit. So?"
"Next Friday, can
we watch Her?" suggested Lizzie.
"How is Her a bad
movie?" asked Skye.
"Uh, the guy is
dating his phone. Isn't that ridiculous?"
Skye pulled a face and
nodded her head, giving it some thought.
"Because if it's
not, I'm keeping Siri away from DeMarcus."
"Speaking of
phones," started Madeline, picking up her phone and turning it on,
"look who didn't respond."
"I'm sure Andrea
didn't see your text yet," said Debra. "Once she does, she'll
definitely text back."
"Yeah, right. I'm
sure right now she's getting into a fight with somebody who made a comment
about her shirt not fitting. It wouldn't be surprising because Andrea is always
in a fight and some of her shirts don't fit that well."
"Hey, this night
is for watching a movie. Not talking about Andrea behind her back."
"You're right.
I'm done talking about Andrea. Let's just watch the movie."
Madeline picked up the
remote for the DVD player from the coffee table and pointed it towards the TV
before pressing "Play". The girls began to glue their eyes to the
screen that displayed the starting movie.
"Is Rose McGowan
with Charles Manson?" asked Lizzie.
